It's with good timing though, we had planned a zone activity to eat a hotdog lunch then get ourselves wet and play some water games. When we started, we somehow had a break from the rain and were walking on dry ground. We passed 2 hours or so playing soccer and when our sisters finally showed up, that's when the floods came. We ended up playing some soccer in the rain and it was just a blast. Complete success.
But, I do have some sour news to share. Our marraige and baptism were put on hold. Turns out our friends down at the government building in santo domingo gave us the information (birth cirtificate, official declaration in the country etc.) of a different Urbano Herrera. Kind of a bummer. So we pushed for the next week while we are in search for the right papers.
We were in a meeting with our stake president and our mission president this last week. What a cool meeting to be in. There was so much athourity in one room it was intense. It turns out that President Corbitt is on first name basis with apostles. He was just (casually) asking Elder Perry what would be the best thing to better the mission here in the Santo Domingo East Mission, to which he repsonded: '' Strengthen the stakes!! ''. When my mission president speaks to me, I feel like he really knows. He's been around the block a time or two and knows what works. He's one of the few people I've met in my life that I just have complete confidence in. I really feel like I can trust the guy. Something you don't get with all that many people. I'm glad I've still got so much time to get to work with him.
He did mention something very interesting I would like to pass on to you though - -
With the topic of raising the spirituality of the mission we talked a lot about obedience, manner of talking, and relating spiritual experiences with the companion. He said: '' If every missionary just took a good look at their savior each day (while pointing to the classic portrait of Jesus in the red robes), and really looked him in the eye. He would understand his purpose here, and the work he ought to be doing. '' It's something I really put to thought. And now I have that same picture of jesus by the mirror in the bathroom. It's something I'm gonna try but you all ougtta try it with me. I know he's the reason we're all here. I'm greatful to have been given my oppurtunity to serve in this great work. I know it's true.
