But man, has it been hot over here!! Not just temperature, but we've been having just great success in our area. Which is great, because the success we're having is with people who have been solitary in their faith for way too long. Let me explain.
Meet Ubano. He's 60, maybe 62 or something and he has been with the missionaries for about a year and a half now. So this saturday his woman is coming up from La vega (about two hours out) to at 8:00 get married to Ubano and then later in the day see her husband get married. What a sight! We wanted them to baptize together, but the missionaries out there haven't seen the same level of progress in her as we have her husband.
so, Woo hoo!
And then there's Rosanna. I need a minute to explain a little about Rosanna. She is a contact we made about a week, maybe two weeks back. And she basically contacted us, she invited us in while she had her mother over who had been visiting from far far away and took time to listen to our message. She came to church this past sunday, and is just progressing out the window. Reading, praying, asking very intelligent gospel questions, and has got this personality that is something like a crazy cat woman, but focuses when it's time to teach.
It's hard to explain.
But she was at chruch sunday.. DURING THE SACRAMENT! After the prayer was said, everything! And her phone rings. She (like all dominicans) didn't hesitate to answer and told the guy on the other line that she way at church. I image he responded like, '' What? you're at church?? Why?'' to which she responded: Today I'm attending The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. And between saying this and ending the call took the little cup of water.
What a woman.
But over here, I welcomed a new follow-me-around-all-the-time buddy named Elder Carrera. This guatemalen is flat out a pizza face . He's got a hefty build and talks what the call ''voz'' which is like the gansta way to talk in guatemala and other latin countries. He's such a funny guy and we've been more that getting along for only having a week together. I hope I finally get to keep a comp for more than one transfer. Lets cross our fingers.
Other than that, Its just really hot. All the time. Our, what they call, Invesour or Generator only lasts about an hour after the light goes. And last night the light didn't come till 2 in the morning. It's beyond hot in our house and even hotter out side. August in hot. At night time, you know how when theres a crime scene and they stetch where the victim was on the ground with chalk?, I have that same thing on my sheets, but with sweat.
So, Happy day :D
But just to finish, this last week when we had our little zone conference in our district out yonder. One of the Elder's shared about the Atonement. A very inspired Missionary took this chance to really get to the nitty gritty of the atonement, and bore testimony of the importance the atonement has for each of us. It's really our only way back. If you've got the time, something I did in my personal study after returning was look under the index the word, ''Atonement'' and just read for awhile the scripture that talk about the impact of the atonement in our every day. Because, it's for much more that just repentance. That's just scratching the surface in all honesty. See if you can build you testimony just a little more this week. I know it will work the same way for you that it worked for me.
hope you didn't get boreed with this long letter.
as always, thanks for the support, love and prayers
Elder Tate
